“Examining ‘Exit’ and ‘Voice’ in Romania and Ukraine”
Co-investigator Dr. Olga Onuch, University of Oxford, Nuffield College (from September 2014 University of Manchester)
Co-investigator Dr. Sorana Toma, University of Oxford, Nuffield College (from September 2014 Grande Ecole d’Economie et de la Statistique)
In January 2014, Dr. Onuch and Dr. Sorana Toma have received an OUP John Fell Fund Research Grant (proof-of concept and pump-priming) to study the nexus between ‘exit’ (migration) and ‘voice’ (protest) (see: Hirshchman 1978). Their study focuses on the cases of Romania (2013) and Ukraine (EuroMaidan 2013/2104).
They have conducted exploratory survey and field work in 2014 on the topic. Preliminary findings and working papers will be made available here.
WORKSHOP AT UNIVERSITY OF OXFORD
Dr. Onuch and Dr. Toma will be hosting an intensive comparative workshop on the topic of Protest and Migration (in preparation for a larger project) in June 2015 at the University of Oxford.
Along with their colleague Prof. Valentina Mazzucato they are applying for larger multi-sited research grant funding. If successful they will include other east european cases in their study.
